Welcome to the American River College Gerontology Program!

I am pleased to be part of the ARC Gerontology faculty, specializing in online education.  Each semester I have a chance to meet some of the most interesting and exciting students.  I hope you will choose to join me in one of my courses.

A little about me:  As a gerontologist, my background combines an academic study of aging as well as professional experience in healthcare and business.  I consider myself a "gerontology baby" having grown up surrounded by some of the pioneers in aging studies.  Gerontology is "in my blood," and despite pursuing a career in healthcare administration and business, I have found myself returning to the field that gives me great joy.

Professional and Academic Background:  I hold Bachelor's Degree in Communication Studies, an undergraduate certificate in Gerontology and a Master's degree in Aging Services Administration.  I've  worked in the field in acute, multi-level and long-term care, both as a caregiver and an administrator.  My graduate research became part of the California Department of Emergency Medical Services policies on geriatric training for paramedics and firefighters.  My work has been awarded for excellence both by the CSU Chancellor and the Journal of Emergency Medical Services.  I've has taught in the community college environment for over 12 years, and enjoy bringing practical experience to students studying the theory of their chosen profession.

Above all, I am passionate about my students.  I strive to give personal attention to every individual in my classes, and do my best to make information accessible and valuable.
