I would have agree with your assesment as far as the readability of plays versus that of short stories in general, although I did not find this play particullarly difficult to read, the short story is always a better read against the play as far as finding out the thoughts behind the characters in a more direct manner. However I was more easily able to draw out the feelings of the characters from the play then the short story myself as the situation seemed very real, but not all plays are written as clearly as Trifles was so on the whole short stories are a better read as far as stories goes.
