I agree that both the poem and the play involves the theme of dreams. Your comment about a grape being left too long in the same environment really struck me. I had never thought about it like that. It really does make sense that when you leave a grape out in the sun it withers and turns into a rasin. Just like the saying goes, you can't just sit there and expect your dreams to be handed to you. I guess thats why Mama moving the family to a different place really fit well for the play's ending. You have really great insight with Hughes' poem and Hansberry's play!

>I think that there is alot on common between the drama "A Raisin in the Sun" and the poem "Harlem." The main comparison is both are dreamers. Like Walter Lee in the drama as Mama's son, Walter Lee desperately wanted to be successful and wanted his family to have everything that they had the opportunity to have. This poem shows to me that if you get comfortable in your surrounding than you will never change. You were once a grape and then after sitting in the sun you become a raisin. Just as Mama wanted to remain where she was until she saw that her family was falling apart. Mama needed to do something to make her life as well as her families life a better success. By Mama viewing Walters actions and his want to have better things, this helped Mama in her decision to move into a house and a all around better situation.
