Hello online statistics 301 students and welcome!

*   Parking is free and a permit will be assigned to you on the first day.  Please display it on your dash.  Please do not leave valuable belongings in your car, and be sure to lock your car.

*   Restrooms are located north of the first floor classrooms.  You can go through the double doors in the staff lot, and make a left.  If the double doors are locked, you can go through the back door of room 150 to the hallway.  There are also restrooms on the second floor.

*   Soda and snack machines are located in the lounge area on the second floor.  Please do not bring food or drinks back with you to the classroom.

 Textbooks, solution manuals, and calculators

*   The textbooks are available for sale at the Ethan Way Center Office on the first day of class.  You can also purchase your textbooks from the bookstore on the main campus, an off-campus bookstore or via Internet.

*   Supplementary material such as student solution manual and calculator manual will only be available from the main campus bookstore.

*   You can purchase calculators from the main campus bookstore.  You can also find them at an office or retail store in the area.

Log in Procedure

*   Students enrolled in the class will already have a student account created for them.  Please follow the instructions on the hand-out.

*   If you are not yet enrolled in the class, you won’t have an account till the following week, when your name appears on the class roster.  You’ll have to log in as a guest for today.

*   To login as a guest, enter the information taped to the top of your monitor for both user name and password.  From the pull down menu, select EWC.

*   A guest login can use the internet features of the computer and can open files.  However, a guest cannot save a file or print a hard copy.

*   Please follow your instructor’s guidelines as to when it is alright to use the computer during class and when it is not.

Using computers outside class time

*   The instructor in room 150 may be available after class if you wish to use a computer for your course work.  However, students are not allowed to remain in the classroom once the instructor leaves.

*   There are open lab hours during the week at the Ethan Way Center.  Please check with the front office staff for hours.

*   Computer use are for educational purposes only.  Please do not check your personal email or engage in a chat room from the college computers.  Please do not make online purchases(except to buy textbook or calculator) or browse through online catalogs from the college computers.

Adding the class

*   The instructor will add students based on space availability in the classrooms, since it is important that every student has a computer during class.

*   You will need to present a proof of pre-requisite for this class.  The pre-requisite course is intermediate algebra. We can check the pre-requisites online during orientation, if the college you attended has your records available via Internet.

*   Once a permission number is assigned to you, you can go ahead and enroll in the course during orientation. Visit the URL  www.arc.losrios.edu and click on registration.

*   Be sure to pay the fees online, by check or at the business office on the main campus within 3 business days.

*   Please verify your enrollment within the first week of class by viewing your schedule online.

*   If you are repeating the course for a second time (that is, taking statistics for a third time), please file a petition with the records office at your earliest convenience.  Otherwise, you’ll be administratively dropped from the course by the Admissions and Records.  The instructor would not be able to reverse that.  In addition, your grades on the Blackboard system will be deleted automatically and cannot be restored even after your enrollment is restored.

Pre-requisite check

*   Everyone’s pre-requisite will be checked on the first day of class.

*   The pre-requisite course is intermediate algebra. We can check the pre-requisites online during orientation, if the college you attended has your records available via Internet.

*   The instructors will follow college and department guidelines concerning pre-requisites.

*   Students who have not completed intermediate algebra by the first day of class will be dropped from the course.

*   Statistics is a transferable course and the ARC’s self-assessment process does not apply.

*   If you fulfilled the pre-requisite at another college, and it is not available online, it is best if you obtain a pre-requisite verification form from ARC counseling center.

*   You may challenge the pre-requisite requirement by filing a petition at the math department office located in Howard Hall on the main campus.  They notify you and the instructor within 3 business days of their decision.  You may stay enrolled until a decision is made.

Open a  imail account

*   imail is ARC’s email system.

*   We encourage you to open a imail account.

*   You can open one by visiting the site  https://imail.losrios.edu/

*   You must open an account from a campus computer.

*   You can check your email from anywhere by visiting the same site.

*   There are many advantages to this.  One is that an instructor could send an email to the entire class at one time through the ARC’s enrollment system.

*   Secondly, you can check your final grade the minute the instructor posts them to the system.

Course Web sites

Since things may get a bit hectic on the first day, while the instructors are helping other students, you may want to visit the course web site and read the course syllabus and schedule.  Here is the URL’s (website address):
