Important Information for
Transfer Students
Changes to Economics
Majors at UCLA
Recently, there have been some significant changes to the three
Economics majors at UCLA. You should be
sure to cover the following points when advising prospective transfer students
who are interested in these majors.
- The three
Economics majors (Business Economics, Economics, and
Economics/International Area Studies) are no longer open to
transfer applicants who are applying for the winter quarter. These three majors will continue to be
open to fall quarter transfer applicants.
- Transfer students who are admitted to a major
outside the Department of Economics are not permitted to transfer into
any of the three Economics majors once they have been admitted. This means that a transfer student who
is admitted as a History major, for example, will not be allowed to
change his/her major to Economics once he/she enrolls at UCLA.
- Important information on double-majors: Some
transfer students may be interested in double-majoring in Economics and a
second major in the College of Letters and Science (for example, Economics
and History). These students
should be advised to apply only to the Economics major. Once admitted, they can add History as
a second major. Transfer students
will not be able to add Economics as a second major.
- Beginning in Fall 2004, transfers must take Statistics 11 here at
UCLA. No statistics courses from other
colleges and universities will be accepted as major prep for the
Economics, Business Economics, and Economics/International Area Studies
majors.
