Work Experience in Business |
|
DESCRIPTION: Supervised work experience in business for the purpose of increasing student's understanding of the nature and scope of the operation of business, government, or service agencies. Class enrollment is dependent upon student being in a paid or volunteer or internship work experience learning environment. May be repeated for credit. INFORMATION: The purpose of Work Experience in Business is to provide students opportunities to develop or add to marketable skills related to the students’ vocational study programs. It combines classroom instruction with on-the-job experience. Students accomplish this process by setting short-range goals (specific learning objectives) with their employers that will assist them in developing new or expanded skills in the workplace and earn academic credit. You can earn 1-4 units of credit based on the number of hours you work during the semester. If you are paid, you need 75 hours for each unit of credit to a maximum of four units (300 hours). If you are unpaid (internship), you need 60 hours for each unit of credit to a maximum of three units (180 hours). Please check with your professor for clarification. In addition, weekly coordinating class activities are included and designed to develop lifelong independent workforce and career transition skills needed to seek, obtain, maintain, and change employment. Instruction will blend workforce competencies with classroom participation. A timesheet must be submitted by the end of the semester. During the semester, the professor must make a site visit with the employer and student. ORIENTATION: Professor Roietta Fulgham is teaching this course at Sacramento City College.
