1) Review the assignment requirements. Read the essay. In your opinion, does the writer answer the essay assignment in this piece? Explain. Yes, the writer did the assigment.
2) Write the thesis statement here: Symbolism does not always have a right or wrong answer because one object, word, or event could mean several different things to one mind. The main subject of the poem is of a young athlete that gained “glory” at a young age, but right before his death. The author of “To An Athlete Dying Young,” uses an artistic and creative approach to showing symbolism to his audience.
3) Does the thesis attempt to prove a specific idea, or is it too general? Yes, the thesis is specific.
4) What specific evidence does the writer provide to support the thesis? They use the actually stanzas from the poem.
5) Does the writer explicitly show how this evidence supports his/her view? Are connections made for the reader? Yes I can see how the words they pick from the stanzas relate to the thesis.
6) Does each paragraph connect with the thesis? Yes
7) Is there additional evidence which the writer has missed? None, that I can think of.
8) Does the conclusion sum up the writer's point? Yes.
9) Give the writer at least one suggestion for improving this paper. There is nothing I can see to improve the paper.
