Table of Contents: Course Materials Schedule Grading Policies
PREREQUISITES: Proof of prerequisite must be given to the instructor during the first week of class or the student will be dropped. The following documents qualify as proof of prerequisite: · Transcripts with Math 110 (Geometry) and Math 120 (Intermediate Algebra) with a grade of “C” or better. · A prerequisite verification slip from Counseling. MATERIALS: Analytic Trigonometry with Applications, 8th Edition, by R. Barnett, M. Ziegler, K. Byleen (required) Solutions Manual to the above text (recommended).
COURSE OBJECTIVES: Upon completion the course, the student will be able to: · Apply the fundamental concepts of trigonometry. · Generate interrelationships between trigonometry functions. · Use trigonometry concepts to interpret graphs and solve problems related to distance, forces, circular motion, navigation and areas of plane figures.
GRADING: · Homework ( 100 pts ) This includes class attendance and being an overall active learner in the classroom. Homework will be assigned almost every class and collected at the beginning of class. Homework must be completed.
· Quizzes & Group Assignments ( 100 pts ) There will be a quiz or group assignments for almost every class. It can be anytime during the class session. So make sure you attend the entire session. If you are not present, you are unable to participate. Quizzes cannot be made up.
· Exams ( 320 pts ) There will be 4 exams, 80 points each. There will be no make-up exams. Exam #1 Chapter 1 Exam #2 Chapter 2 Exam #3 Chapter 3 & 4 Exam #4 Chapter 5 & 6
· Final ( 150 pts ) The final exam will be comprehensive from chapter 1 to chapter 7. No make-up for the Final exam. The date for the Final Exam will be tentatively scheduled for December 16th, 7:00-9:00 AM, Room 165
· Good Attitude, Attendance & Participation ( 80 pts ): Attend and be punctual for every class meeting. You are responsible for all information presented in the class such as quizzes, exams, assignments, etc. If you are enrolled in the class and stop attending, it is your responsibility to drop yourself from the course to avoid receiving an “F” for your final grade. If you have more than maximum allowed absences without compelling excuses, you may be dropped from the class. To encourage attendance, I will give you an extra 10 points at the end of the course if you have perfect attendance.

· Extra Credits You will have the opportunity to do some extra credit work, which will be offered to the whole class. There will not be individual extra credit assignments. Grading Scale: 90-100% i.e. 675 – 750 pts A 80-89% 600 – 674 pts B 70-79% 525 – 599 pts C 60-69% 450 – 524 pts D 0 - 59% below 450 pts F OTHER POLICIES: Each student is expected to:
1. Follow all rules and procedures of American River College. 2. No cell phone is allowed in the classroom. 3. Inappropriate or destructive behaviors will result in disciplinary action. However, positive behaviors credit your total points. 4. Cheating (for example, sharing exams/quizzes. etc.) or academic fraud (changing grades, etc.) is not tolerated and will result in the failing grade of 0% for all involved parties or being reported accordingly.
TIPS FOR SUCCESS: 1. This course requires that you spend a minimum of 15 hours per week outside of class time. 2. Consistent attendance and active participation. Ask for help or clarification in class. 3. Communicate with the instructor at the end/beginning of the class, email, or office hours. 4. Get FREE tutoring from the Oak Tree Tutoring Center or Tutoring Center @ Learning Resource Center. 5. Persistence and steady work will win the day. 6. Practice, Practice and Practice. 7.
