Server Each student will acquire their own server space.( See Assignment 1)
Resource Materials: Lynda.com: All enrolled stud nets will receive a Welcome email. Follow instructions to get access.
Recommended Book: It is good to use a book as a second reference tool. I recommend the visual quick start series but any Dreamweaver book is fine as long as you like the style. I also find most of my resources online (youtube and such) so you do not have to buy a book.

Adobe Dreamweaver CS4 - 6
If you don't want to buy the software You can work in the lab on Campus (Room 127). Open lab times will be posted in the announcement area of the D2L site.

You can download a Dreamweaver trial version for free from Adobe.com. Click on Downloads and find Dreamweaver CS6 Trial. Use this until you receive your purchased version. You just need to enter the serial number to install Dreamweaver permanently once you receive your program.

Remember that you get educational credit and there are many sites that have great software deals.

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course introduces technical and conceptual aspects of creating interactive visual
media for screen-based delivery. It concentrates on designing standards-based web
sites and applying standardized best practices to web design. The course introduces the
basics of layout for visual communication by tightly integrating the design concepts
with technical execution in a web environment. Industry-standard authoring tools are
applied. Meaning and validity of inter activity are closely examined. This course may
be taken 4 times for credit on different platforms or software versions.

Student Learning Outcomes
Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to:

• design standards-based websites integrating basic design principles into the application of   industry standard authoring tools
• produce a design from idea to publishing applying industry-standard design work flow
• build information architecture for effective content flow
• create meaningful interactivity
• test and advertise published web sites
• critique and analyze web sites for their effectiveness in visual communication

COURSE DETAILS

Method of Instruction:
This course will cover beginning and intermediate techniques to build web sites using Dreamweaver. Instructions, weekly assignments and materials are available on the course web site. Announcements, discussions and grades will be available on the D2L course site. To logon to D2L go to the following link: https://d2l.losrios.edu

Software requirements : The software we are using is Dreamweaver . If you do not have this software it is available in the LRC at Natomas Educational Center and in the Computer Lab, Room 152 on the main ARC campus. You may also download a 30-day free trial of Dreamweaver from http://www.adobe.com

Attendance/Participation Policy: A student can be dropped from this course , if I do not receive assignments (or any communication, e.g., email or voice mail) during a 2-week period.
Remember that it's your responsibility to drop the class. Otherwise, you will receive an F for the class.

COMMUNICATION
Weekly Announcements: The main tool of communication is the D2L site. Here I will post all information and news regarding the course. You are responsible for knowing the information posted.

I will be emailing grade updates. It is important that you read all my email carefully and check your inbox frequently.

All emails sent to me must have the following in the subject line and need to be signed:
ARTNM 401- Topic (assignment #1)- Last Name

Response Time: I check my email daily (Monday - Friday) . I will respond to your questions within 24 hours. Grades are usually posted 4 days from the due date of the assignment.

Discussion Area: There will be required weekly conversations regarding the materials and assignments. Usually they are due the same day as the assignment. Late entries in the Discussion will not be graded.

The grade for the second half of this course will be based on the following components

Final grade is determined based on points earned. 90 - 100% of total point value A, 80 - 89% B, 70 - 79% C, 60 - 69% D, under 60% F
