Crop Development via Breeding and Biotechnology

Interactions between breeding and biotech in the development of new crops

Long Description: Breeding and biotech methods have complementary roles in the development of new crops. Breeding methods include mutant isolation, analytical biochemistry, genetics, germplasm development and molecular breeding. Biotech methods include gene isolation, plant physiology, biochemistry, genetics, molecular biology, transgenic plants, tissue & cell culture. All of these methods contribute to serving the needs of the marketplace for new crops with new improved traits. Plants developed by both methods are put through the normal variety development process of yield testing and harvested product testing.
