Decorative Image Structure fo the genome

Long Description: The genetic map identifies the sequences of genes along the chromosome. These DNAs are isolated as a series of overlapping DNA clones which represent all of the genes in the genome. Sequencing of these DNA clones allows the DNA sequence of every gene in the genome to be determined.

Use of genomics data for "Marker-Assisted Breeding"

Genomics data provides "markers" throughout the genome

"Molecular markers" are unique DNA sequences that are:

a) located at known positions throughout the genome

b) easily assayed in a small tissue sample

c) (occasionally) located very close to a "gene of interest"
