Post any questions you have about this method at the discussion site for this week. Many times during this semester you will need to use this method to find information on the web. The Boolean Search method is automatically implied when you search most web search engines such as Google or Yahoo. That's why we don't need to put in these qualifiers. However if you are having trouble searching a topic sometimes it helps to know who the mind of the search engine is working.
Find out what Narrative Therapy is. Post two points about this type of therapy as it relates to older adults
Remembering the theories and concepts you have read in our text and lecture how might this type of therapy be applied in Gerontology?
For example you might say that according to the lecture on Erikson, the last stage of development is Dignity vs. Despair.
Narrative therapy might help a person review their life and help them find dignity by realizing that they were
not the problem but that life happens. There are many other examples. They require that you understand the materials. You could use something in Freud or Jung's balance of male and female. Use any concept you want but not what you personally believe.
Be sure to cite your work.
Did you take the stress test located in the electronic handouts? What did you think of it? Does it apply in your life? In addition to the assignment when you post this week, please tell us your feelings about the two theories presented in lecture and how you think they might affect the care of older adults in our society? HINT: Look up continuity theory to help you decide. Do our personalities really change?
I used "ask Jeeves" (what is narrative therapy) and found more articles than I could read. Use Boolean and narrow this search.
You can also try search engines such as Dogpile, Yahoo, MSN or Google. They all have plenty of materials. If you don't know how to get to these search engines ask in the discussion board.
