Instructor's Page Syllabus Assignments Discussion Interactive materials Links Schedule

This course is designed to provide students with a broad overview of the American political system, including the institutions of government and the processes of political life.  During the course, we will examine competing explanations of how this system operates and how well it meets its democratic ideals.  We will discuss the philosophical underpinnings of our constitutional government, how the public participates in the political process, and the institutions that develop and implement the policies that affect our lives every day.
