Edna is a more independent woman than the traditional sense of a a woman at her time, however she did have a beauty all her own. She possessed a beauty that was independent and different in more of a handsome way although the beauty was absolutely there nonetheless. Adele was a beautiful woman in the traditional sense, as a loving wife and mother who had a level of grace that was unrivaled. Mr. Pontellier was a man that seemed to fit in with the expectations of men at that time in the sense that he was into his money and possessions and seemed content only with having it all instead of truly being passionate. Robert, on the other hand was a passionate young man who followed his heart and spent a great deal more time talking with the women than the men. He seemed to connect with an emotional existence and could truly acknowledge Edna's feelings especially.
