In the novel "The Awakening" Edna as the main character. Edna was a brave woman. I think she was a prisoner being married to Mr. Pontellier, she was not happy with him. She was not a typical housewife. She wanted to be independent person. She was not afraid to disobeys the rules of the society. She was showing to society that she wanted to be her own person. After she left her husband she was doing good, she bought her own house “The pigeon house” She sold paintings to make a living. She did not need no one to survive in life, she did well on her own. She was a truly modern woman of "The Seneca Falls Declaration of Sentiments." She is telling us that the Sentiments come into play for all women. Mademoiselle Reisz states in The Awakening, "The artist must possess the courageous soul that dares and defies."
