The author shows some pride throughout the poem of catching a fish. The author uses extreme detail when describing his catch, his prize. Comparisons are made to other objects in order to make the visual picture more clearly for readers. “and its pattern of darker brown/ was like wall-paper: / shapes like full-blown roses”(509). Explaining every aspect of his catch with extreme pride then releasing the fish shows the thankfulness of accomplishment.
