The first idea that I got from this poem is lucky guy, he caught a fish that was willing to be caught. In the poem it said "He didn't fight" (Elizabeth Bishop). This fish was willing to die and the author describes how the death was happening. I think that the man that caught the fish was starting to feel horrible for torturing the poor creature. It was like he was killing off his own race. After feeling that way he decides to let the fish free.
