>The first idea that I got from this poem is lucky guy, he caught a fish that was willing to be caught. In the poem it said "He didn't fight" (Elizabeth Bishop). This fish was willing to die and the author describes how the death was happening. I think that the man that caught the fish was starting to feel horrible for torturing the poor creature. It was like he was killing off his own race. After feeling that way he decides to let the fish free.

Listening to the poem made me realize that I had sympathy for this little fish. The fish had been through a lot and after hearing the way the fish has been trashed with having 5 hooks in his mouth and all by different fishers. This makes a person have a emotion called guilt. I felt very guilty after hearing the poem read, I would have let that fish free as well.
