Hearing the poem and reading how the elements of poetry work in this poem changed my first impression and enhanced my understanding of the poem. I was able to see the situation only from the boy’s point of view. However, I learned that the situation may be interpreted also from the father’s and mother’s point of view. Rhyme in “My Papa’s Waltz” helps the reader feel the tense situation.
