Course Objectives:

By the end of this course, you will be able to:

1.  Categorize the known nutrients, their functions and food sources, and
     apply this knowledge to individual needs.
2.  Explain the body's use and distribution of the nutrients as they pass
     through the digestive pathways.
3.  Identify the basic interactions and relationships that exist between
     nutrients.
4.  Distinguish between the various requirements and recommendations
     of nutrients for individuals during various stages of the life cycle.
5.  Measure energy intake and estimate personal energy needs.
6.  Analyze food intake in terms of nutrient and energy content and
     identify areas for improvement in individual diets.
7. Formulate a working knowledge of nutrition so as to distinguish
    between valid nutrition sources and misinformation.

     To pass this course, the Diet
     Analysis and its related assignments must be 
     satisfactorily completed with a 'C' or better.

4.  Annual Edition-Nutrition assigned readings and         140
     reflection papers. To pass this course with a 
     "C" or better, these reflection papers must be 
     satisfactorily completed.  Annual Edition articles
       are due by 8:00 a.m. on Tuesdays.

7.  Extra-credit:  Extra-credit points will be applied 
     to your cumulative points at the end of the 
     semester.  Extra-credit activities may only be selected
     from an instructor generated list of activities.

For Your Information:

1.  Make-up quizzes/exams will not be available.
     Neither the Quizzes, the Midterm, nor the Final Exam can be made-up if
     missed.
       
2.  Course material will be available beginning each Sunday at 10 a.m. and
     will be removed by 11:45 p.m. on the following Saturday.

     Unless otherwise noted, assignments are due by 11:45 p.m. on Saturdays.
     ( Exception: Annual Edition articles are due by 8:00 a.m. on Tuesdays.)

     Due dates for assignments and exams are non-negotiable, and late work
       will be penalized. 

 
     Late assignments received within one week of the due date will receive half
     credit; 50%, an "F".
     Assignments received more than one week after the due date will be
     worth zero points. 

3.  Discussion Board:  Plan on logging on to the discussion
     board several times each week. Your presence on the discussion board
     will be viewed as your class attendance and participation.  You will have one
     week (Sunday through Saturday) to respond to any questions posted.
   

4.  Cheating and/or plagiarism will not be tolerated and will result in the
     student receiving a failing grade for the assignment and possibly for the
     course. All materials taken from web or print sources must be cited. 

     You are expected to abide by the ARC policies on academic honesty
     and integrity as given in the Student Handbook. Violations of these
     policies will not be tolerated and are subject to severe sanctions up
     to and including expulsion from the college.

5.  It is the responsibility of the student to officially drop this class if so
     warranted. I will not officially drop you if you simply stop participating.
 
     Sunday, April 18, 2010, is the last day to drop full semester
     classes with a 'W' notation.
    
6.  The D2L server is scheduled for regular maintenance on
     Sunday mornings from 6-9am. 

7.  Success: There's more than enough for everyone.  My job is to help you
     achieve whatever level of success you desire.
