About Me

I like to learn. As a consequence, I’ve been a student for a long, long time.  I’ve also been teaching for a long, long time.  They seem to go hand in hand. I also enjoy the outdoors—including light hiking, kayaking, and breathing fresh air.  Traveling and seeking new places and cultures combines most of the above: I get to learn while enjoying the outdoors and new places.  So far I’ve been through most of the US, a bit of Canada and Mexico, Costa Rica, Western Europe and parts of Eastern Europe, Turkey and Egypt.  Viva la open road!  When I’m not teaching, grading papers, or meandering in a new place, I attempt to grow plants with my brown thumb, find various coffee shops to read and people watch, or attend to the absorption of pop culture via television and movies.
