How Long Will You  Live

Introduction: Here is a documentary on "How to Live to 101"
http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/how-to-live-to-101/

This week's reading in Annual Editions, Will You Live to be 100 contains a quiz to help  you determine life expectancy. The quiz is based on a study of 150 centenarians and will calculate a persons potential of living a long life.  There is a slightly different edition on line by Dr. Perls  located here http://www.livingto100.com/ Notice there are two options . One for under 50 and one for over 50. Just for fun check out the opposite one that applies to you if you like.

There are many other such quizzes on the internet. Some based on research others not. Many want to sell you something. For example this site is based on good research but is in the business of selling products http://www.realage.com/ralong/entry4.aspx?cbr=GGLE138_R&gclid=CJXSu4GO9o0CFQligwodFW_kLA.  OR look at this page http://seniorliving.about.com/od/lifetransitionsaging/a/agingquiz.htm

If you put the terms "aging quiz" or "Will You Live to be 100" into a search engine (Yahoo, Google etc.) many pages will pop up.

Assignment:

  1. Choose an aging quiz (something that estimates how long you will live) . You can use the one in the text of find another if you like.
  2. Post the URL (web address)  or title. Tell us where you found it
  3. Assess if the quiz is creditable- Why or why not (remember how to evaluate a web site?).
  4. Which of the factors that contribute to healthy aging interest you the most? For example, I like the idea of family and friends increasing my life expectancy because it is something I can personally improve upon.  I can build a convoy of friends and  family. I don't like the idea of taking a daily aspirin because of my nursing knowledge of the potential affects of medications. I'm not ready to take this step in my life.
  5. Then tell us which the areas you would like to change and what it will take for you to make those changes.

Remember, the way you take care of yourself the first 50 years will in part determine how well you are the last 50 and no matter what your age is it's never too late to benefit from a healthy life style.
