In the opening scene of the short story version of "A Jury of Her Peers." The opening scene of the story started out by introducing Martha Hale who was about ready to leave her home when she noticed that her kitchen was a total mess and did not want to leave. Her kitchen was cluttered with baking materials for her bread. The short story showed Martha Hale as person who likes to get everything done at once and not have to complete half of the job now and do the rest later.
In the Play, The story started out in the setting of the kitchen. Martha Hale does not seem to care much for her mess in the kitchen. Her guest, the County Attorney, the Sheriff and Mrs. Peters seems to care and notice the mess in Martha's kitchen. Martha's guests even pointed it out to her. Still Martha showed no care for the mess.
The play, shows Martha as a person who does not care much if the work is not completed as to the short story, which showed Martha as a person who hates clutter.
