When I read the title of "My Papa's Waltz," I thought the poem might be about a little girl and her father waltzing. Then the first three lines included the words "whiskey" and "death." I realized that this poem was not anything sweet and innocent like a little girl and father waltzing. It is about a little boy being beaten up by his drunk dad.
