Gaining an understanding of the elements has allowed me to really be able to dissect the poem. Though my understanding of this specific poem was on track, I have a greater appreciation for the poem as an art. I now see the elements of meter, alliteration, and image in the poem, just to name a few.

>When I read the title of "My Papa's Waltz," I thought the poem might be about a little girl and her father waltzing. Then the first three lines included the words "whiskey" and "death." I realized that this poem was not anything sweet and innocent like a little girl and father waltzing. It is about a little boy being beaten up by his drunk dad.
