About This Class

ComputerImportant Note: This class uses web-based tools and requires completion of all assessments via the Internet.

This is an introductory human sexuality class.  It is expected that each student has enrolled with the intention of fulfilling the course objectives as described below.  Students should be aware that the content of this course can be embarrassing, sensitive, provocative, and controversial.  Students should be prepared to discuss their knowledge and experiences with these issues in small groups and during class discussion

Students are expected to be respectful of the diversity of opinions and beliefs that will be presented and discussed throughout the semester.  In doing so, students are expected to follow the classroom ground rules (attached) at all times.

Student Learning Outcomes

  1. To examine sexual behavior from historical, cultural, religious, and legal points of view

  2. To analyze key research findings that pertain to human sexual behavior

  3. To compare male and female anatomical structures and their functions

  4. To relate the concepts of human sexuality to his or her own sexual relationships and experiences

  5. To analyze his or her own sexual activity in terms of past, present and future behavior

Assessments

Students will complete a variety of assessments throughout the semester during class. 
A final grade will be based on the following approximate points:

Quizzes         = 150 points
Participation
    = 150 points
Journals          = 100 points
Topic Analysis  = 100 points
Exams           = 220
points

Total Points      = 720 points

 

Registered Students

Happy faceMonday, August 22 and Tuesday, August 23 are the first day of classes.  Failure to show up on the first day of class will forfeit your position on the roster.  On this date registered students will have full access to the class website: Desire2Learn (also known as D2L).  If you have never used D2L, instructions to log in are available on D2L's homepage.  Click on the link below to log into D2L.  Make sure to bookmark it as a "Favorite."  All assessments are administered through this class website.

Wait Listed Students

Anxious Smiley FaceI will be distributing permission numbers to students on the wait-list during the first week of class only, based on available spots on the roster.  Failure to show up on the first day of class will forfeit your position on the wait list.  Students given a permission number will have 48 hours to officially add the class.  Access to the class website (http://d2l.losrios.edu) will be available within 48 hours after official registration with eServices.

Note: I will never distribute permission numbers by email or voicemail.  Interested students must attend the first scheduled class.

Worried smiley faceI will be distributing permission numbers to interested students on a first-come-first serve basis, based on available spots on the roster only AFTER my wait-listed students.  It is highly unlikely that students not on the wait list will receive a permission number however interested students can still attend class during the first week in hopes of getting a permission number.  Access to the class website (http://d2l.losrios.edu) will be available within 48 hours after official registration with eServices.
