Handouts
will
also
be
given
out
in
class. Classroom Courtesy: Please arrive on time. Please don't talk while I'm lecturing. Raise your hand and I'll call on you. Please turn off the cell phones. If you are disruptive, I have the right to ask you to leave. Note Taking: You will need to take notes every day. If you want assistance read the handout "Tips on Better Note-Taking for Art History and Intro to Art Courses" which will be given out week #2. Cam-corders are not allowed in class. If you are tape-recording lectures I would like advance notification, your name, address and phone number. Examinations: There is one midterm exam and one final exam. Exams consist of slide analysis, multiple choice, matching and true/false questions. A complete review of exam material will be given, segment by segment, during the two weeks prior to each exam. You will need a Scantron #882 form and a #2 pencil for these exams. It is also important to be on time. Late arrivals may have to forfeit some of the first questions. Please hold onto your returned midterm Scantron form, as it is your proof that you took the test. Unless arranged in advance, no make-up exams are allowed without an excused absence. That means something on paper (like a doctor's note) which verifies your reason for missing the exam. If you have a legitimate schedule conflict with an exam date, you can make arrangements to take the test in advance. Make up exams consist primarily of essay questions. Grades: Grades are based on the following formula: Midterm exam: 40% Final exam: 60% You must take both exams to pass the course. No plus or minus grades will be given for the course grade. Students
who
earn
a D
or
F
grade
on
their
midterm
exam
may
arrange
to
write
a
500-word
paper,
which
can
raise
their
midterm
grade
by
one
level.
Details
will
be
given
out
in
class
the

midterms
are
returned. Add/Drop Policy: This class fills early every semester. If you're trying to add please use the college's waiting list system and I will add students as openings come up. Except for first day no-shows, I do not drop students. If you wish to drop you must do so yourself. Assistance: My office is #548, in the Fine and Applied Arts office building on the north side of the campus. My office hours are: Mon/Fri 11am-noon, Wed 6-6:50pm, Tue/Th 12:25-1:25pm. My office phone is 484-8502, and it has a message machine on it. Sorry, I don't do e-mail. I have a "snail"-mailbox in the back of the Fine and Applied Arts division office (under Magri). Please call only if it concerns something that can't wait until the next class meeting. Please don't call over a single absence. Course
Material: The
slide
lectures
include
artworks
with
nudity.
If
you
don't
like
viewing
paintings
and
sculptures
of
naked
people
I
recommend
you
drop
this
class.
This
course
will
also
cover
controversial
material.
It
is
the
proper
role
of
a
college
to
explore
such
material
in
an
intelligent
and
responsible
manner.
Anyone
feeling
uncomfortable
about
this
should
talk
to
me
about
it.
I
won't
change
my
lectures,
but
we
can
discuss
alternatives
to
dealing
with
subject
matter
you
find
objectionable.
