Microarrays representing thousands of individual genes allow very high throughput analysis of genes and gene expression patterns.

Each spot in the array represents a different gene and the color of the spot represents its level of gene expression. This helps in identification of genes that all function together through expression at a particular stage in plant development or in response to some environmental stress.
