Gene pool reduction during crop domestication

Gene pools of wild vs domesticated plants

Long Description: A wild plant species has a large diverse gene pool relative to the smaller selected gene pool of the domesticated crop plant which was developed from the wild plant.

The "Gene Pool" includes all of the genes present in all members of a crop species.

The number of different genes in the gene pool is represented graphically by the sizes of the circles.
