Long Description: Hybridization of crop x crop sometimes results in valuable new gene combinations. When both parents come from the same narrow gene pool of a domesticated species this hybridization does not increase the overall size of the crop species gene pool.
Long Description: Hybridization of a crop with a wild related plant can dramatically expand the size of the gene pool within the crop species.
